ESPN college football analyst "Beano" Cook died in his sleep at age 81. Carroll H. Cook was a Pitt graduate who also served as the school's sports information director from 1956-66 and worked at ABC Sports for the next eight years. It was at ESPN where Cook became known to a national audience after serving as a studio analyst for ABC Sports from 1982-85. He had also worked for CBS, the St. Petersburg Times and the Miami Dolphins. Cook joined ESPN in 1986 and continued working at the network until the time of his death. ---Michigan State tight end Dion Sims likely will miss Saturday's Big Ten game against Iowa. Sims, the team's leading receiver with 24 catches, sustained a sprained ankle in the first quarter of last Saturday's win at Indiana. Coach Mark Dantonio isn't totally ruling him out this week, but his availability appears doubtful. If Sims can't go, he'll be replaced by redshirt freshman Paul Lang, who has one reception in his career. ---Oklahoma State announced Thursday that it will play its 2013 season opener against Mississippi State in Houston's Reliant Stadium. The game will be part of a Texas Kick Off Classic production of ESPN, the NFL's Houston Texans and Lone Star Sports and Entertainment.
