CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Willis Hall scored 18 points and grabbed 17 rebounds for his third straight double-double as College of Charleston survived a slow second half to defeat Howard 60-50 Saturday.
Hall scored 14 points before halftime as the Cougars (8-7) cruised early, holding Howard (3-14) to 16 points on 19 percent first-half shooting. But the Cougars had a cold opener to start the second with turnovers and misses, allowing Howard to creep within 42-37 on a Prince Okoroh jumper with 8:34 remaining.
Okoroh scored 27, taking the scoring load for the young Bison (playing nine freshmen), who are missing leading scorers James Daniel and James Miller.
Joe Chealey and Nori Johnson drained back-to-back 3-pointers as the Cougars pushed the lead back to 48-37. Adjehi Baru added 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Cougars' Canyon Barry (son of NBA Hall-of-Famer Rick) injured his shooting hand Jan. 1 and will miss several weeks.
