College basketball roundup: Ware in good spiris after surgery
Louisville guard Kevin Ware was in "good spirits" Monday after having surgery on Sunday night to repair the broken leg in suffered in Sunday's NCAA Tournament game.
Ware told ESPN.com he expects to be discharged from the Indianapolis hospital on Tuesday and return to Louisville. He plans to travel with the team to Atlanta for the Final Four.
Ware, who suffered a gruesome-looking injury during the first half of the victory over Duke, had a steel rod inserted in his leg during the two-hour surgery.
Ware said he knew something was wrong when he saw the expression on coach Rick Pitino's face while he was on the ground.
"I jumped and my leg felt kind of funny," he said, according to ESPN. "When Coach P tried to help me up, he gave me a funny kind of look. I'm looking at him and then I look down and I see my bone sticking out. It wasn't a hurt feeling. I just went into shock. In the moment, you don't know what's wrong with you. You're just looking, thinking, 'How did this happen?' I never watched the replay. I never want to."
---Creighton's Doug McDermott became the 51st player to make the Associated Press All-America team in consecutive years. He was joined on the first team by Michigan's Trey Burke, Georgetown's Otto Porter Jr., Indiana's Victor Oladipo and Gonzaga's Kelly Olynyk.
Freshman guard Marcus Smart of Oklahoma State, Duke senior Mason Plumlee, Indiana sophomore Cody Zeller, Miami sophomore Shane Larkin and Kansas freshman Ben McLemore were on the AP second team.
---Tubby Smith, who was fired as Minnesota's head coach last month, has agreed to terms to become the next coach at Texas Tech, ESPN.com's Jason King reported.
However, Texas Tech has not announced that Smith has been hired yet.
If hired, Smith would take over for interim coach Chris Walker, who went 11-20 this season. Billy Gillispie resigned in September.
---Kentucky announced that freshman Archie Goodwin will enter the NBA draft this year but said freshman Willie Cauley-Stein and Kyle Wiltjer, will be back next season.
There was no word on what freshman Alex Poythress will do.
Goodwin averaged 14.1 points and 4.6 rebounds for the Wildcats this season.
---North Carolina State lost two starters. Junior C.J. Leslie announced he will give up his final year of eligibility to enter the NBA Draft, and freshman guard Rodney Purvis will transfer.
The Raleigh News & Observer first reported Purvis' decision to transfer, and he confirmed it on his Twtter account.
