College Basketball Roundup: McDermott stays at Creighton

Creighton All-America forward Doug McDermott will return for one more year, delaying his entrance into the NBA draft.

"I will be returning to Creighton for my senior year and can't wait to put on that uniform for one more season!" McDermott wrote on Twitter.

McDermott was the second-leading scorer in Division I last season, averaging 23.2 points. He must declare by Sunday.

---Allerik Freeman, one of the early signees under former UCLA coach Ben Howland, is leaving the Bruins. The school announced Thursday that Freeman asked for and was given his release from a national letter of intent he signed last November.

Freeman recently completed his senior season at Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nv., where he led the school on a 54-game winning streak.

---Eddie Jordan wasted little time improving the school's basketball program. Two days after being introduced as Rutgers' new coach, Jordan announced the signing of his first recruit, guard-forward Craig Brown.

The 6-foot-5 Brown averaged 18.0 points and 8.0 rebounds as a sophomore last season at Broward College in Davie, Fla.

---Center Hunter Mickelson is transferring to Kansas after two seasona at Arkansas, JayhawkSlant.com reported Thursday.

After sitting out next season, The 6-foot-10 Mickelson will have two seasons of eligibility remaining. He averged 5.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.7 blocked shots in two years at Arkansas.
