One lucky student at Brandon University in Canada won a semester's tuition at the university's basketball game on Friday night. The college has been running a contest called "Smitty's Tuition Shootout" in which students attempt a half-court shot at halftime to win tuition money. If the student makes the shot, the college pays for one semester's worth of expenses. Mason Kaluzniak was selected randomly from the stands and opted to have Brandon head coach Gil Cheung to shoot for him -- which is allowed under the rules. Cheung, who played four years of college basketball at Brandon, stepped up to the line wearing his gameday suit and sank the shot. "He looked in our bench's direction and I jokingly said, 'Pick me!' " Cheung told the Yahoo Sports! blog. "The toughest part was seeing how I can shoot with a suit on." Brandon went on to win the game 74-68, but all the talk after the game was about Cheung's half-court heave. Cheung is in his third season coaching Brandon and also teaches physical education at the college.
