Buzzing on Yahoo Sports:

CM Punk Vs. Paul Heyman WWE Feud Will Be Epic

Yahoo Contributor Network

COMMENTARY | When CM Punk returned to action as a babyface pro wrestler at WWE's Payback pay-per-view in June, his friendship with Paul Heyman moved to the endangered list. The next month proved to be a transitional period as Heyman claimed to still be Punk's friend, while the straight-edge superstar clearly had his doubts. Finally, Heyman turned on Punk at Money in the Bank, costing him a future WWE Championship contract.

CM Punk and Paul Heyman

Then on the July 15 episode of WWE Raw, CM Punk and Paul Heyman had a confrontation for the ages. Both of these men are incredible on the mic and while many old school fans complain that there's too much talking in wrestling, I can listen to Punk and Heyman's promos all night. Heyman made it personal by referencing Punk's real-life estrangement from his parents. Finally, Paul Heyman's client Brock Lesnar came out and pummeled CM Punk.

Although nothing is official yet, it appears as though CM Punk and Brock Lesnar are headed for a collision at WWE SummerSlam in August. Heyman's actions at Money in the Bank led to Punk receiving 13 staples in his head and Lesnar's attack certainly didn't help his recovery. Paul Heyman will appear on Miz TV on WWE Smackdown Friday night, as the build to the inevitable SummerSlam wrestling showdown continues.

The fact that CM Punk and Paul Heyman have a real history together in wrestling is what will make their WWE feud incredible. Punk worked for Heyman in the WWE developmental territory OVW and they later worked together on the WWE's ECW brand. Of course, like everything in wrestling, this feud is just a storyline, but even the smallest iota of truth helps make kayfabe seem real. In other words, the willing suspension of disbelief is much easier to attain.

As a former wrestler in the original ECW, RVD could play a role in this feud. RVD is back in the WWE and he had an amazing 22-minute wrestling match on the July 15 Raw. Many fans thought RVD would be the next "Paul Heyman guy." However, RVD is experiencing a groundswell of popularity and there is no way he can ally with a hated heel like Heyman. Perhaps RVD will join with CM Punk and seek revenge for issues he may have had with Heyman in ECW.

Curtis Axel

Curtis Axel is another Paul Heyman guy who will likely play a supporting role in the upcoming weeks. However, he is not a monster like Lesnar and he's not one of the WWE's best talkers. More than likely, Axel may take part in attacks on CM Punk or the duo may get booked in tune-up wrestling matches on upcoming episodes of Raw. Both the major players and the supporting cast will make this feud one that WWE fans will remember for years.

Given their history together and their incredible ability to tell a story, CM Punk and Paul Heyman will make WWE programming must-see TV in the coming weeks.
