The Los Angeles Clippers are cruising, as they won their fifth straight game and continue to put pressure on the Lakers in the Pacific Division. You hope that the Clips will save some of this momentum for the playoffs, but it is certainly exciting to see this team come together and play well down the stretch. There are still some flaws in their game, but they are certainly built to do some damage in the playoffs.
Starting at the point
A number of players are doing very well right now, and Blake Griffin is really developing into a superstar. However, you have to give Chris Paul a lot of credit for how the Clippers have been playing over the last couple of weeks. CP3 has been both a scoring and distribution threat, which opens up the floor for so many other options. This is exactly what Los Angeles hoped would happen when they traded away a lot to get the All-Star point guard.
Issues with defense
As a fan, I still worry about the defense of the Clippers. The team obviously has a ton of athletic ability, but outside of Kenyon Martin I don't know if they are the most intuitive defensive team. I was impressed with how Los Angeles locked down the Thunder in the second half on April 16, but sometimes this team can look a bit lost when it comes to their defensive schemes.
At this point, it is hard to say which playoff opponent would be most desirable. Right now, the Clippers are slotted to face the Grizzlies. Even though Los Angeles won the season series, the Grizz are one of those pesky squads that could be a bit dangerous in the playoffs. Of course, many of the seeds could be rearranged as the season winds down, so a number of opponents are possible.
This is going to be fun.
