Clippers focus coaching talks on Scott

The SportsXchange

The Los Angeles Clippers are focusing their coaching search on Byron Scott, ESPN The Magazine reported Saturday.

After talks broke down with Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers, the Clippers turned their focus toward Scott. Clippers president Andy Roeser has put together financial terms of a contract proposal for Scott.

However, the Clippers have not entirely given up on Rivers, according to ESPN.com. They want to have a plan in place if Rivers decides not to return to the Celtics. He is taking the weekend to assess his future and is expected to make a decision Monday.

The other candidates -- Scott, Lionel Hollins and Brian Shaw -- have met with Clippers management and owner Donald Sterling.

Financial terms have not been discussed with Hollins but the team does have an idea how much money Shaw is seeking.

The front office is expected to present their recommendations to Sterling on Monday.

The Celtics are scheduled to have a press conference regarding Rivers on Monday.

Soon-to-be free agent point guard Chris Paul was reportedly disappointed that talks with Rivers fell through, but he also has close ties to Scott. He previously played for Scott with the New Orleans Hornets.
