For those that do not think golf is entertaining enough as it is, there is a new offing in the breeze. Clint Eastwood, best known for his role as "Dirty Harry" in shoot-em-up, god guy-bad guy movies, has been reported to be involved in several upcoming golf related TV series.
As the creative chairman of "Back9Network" Eastwood, having decades of experience in the entertainment business, will be acting in the capacity of advisor in areas like casting. One show named "Hole Lotta Love" will feature bachelors and bachelorettes competing on the green for their dream date. Reports have not indicated that "Dirty Harry" will be one of the contestants. That should be good news for the contesting bachelors.
A comedy spoof named "Beer Cart Girl", will be another addition to the Golf Channel, and will feature a beautiful girl driving around the course on a golf cart to deliver bottles and cans of foamy alcoholic refreshment to thirsty golfers.
Comedian, Jackie Flynn, will reportedly be featured in a new golf related series that will suit his "wise guy attitude" and take him to some of the most prestigious golf courses in the world, where he will no doubt inflict shock and frustration on the rich, famous and etiquette correct elite.
Moving from comedy, another series In the "bordering on crazy" genre "Extreme Golf" will find attention needy daredevils teeing off from the tops of skyscrapers, and places like the middle of the desert, and other ungodly places.
Eastwood, a founding shareholder in the new venture has already put his two- cents worth in by weighing in on storyboards, and some of the networks casting choices. The Back9Network is a new concept for golf fans and injects some long overdue humor into what has traditionally been a rather formal and stuffy atmosphere. It is kind of like pouring beer into a champagne bottle, and asking the discriminatory palette to like it. It takes a while, but you get used to it.
Perhaps that is why 81-year-old Clint Eastwood was enlisted. He has the talent, the refinement, and the sense of humor to make it work, and if those qualities fail, he always has Dirty Harry to fall back on.
Golf is the major summer time sport here in Northeast Harbor. I've played each year here for the past decade. When I lived in Georgia, I had the opportunity to be a spectator at two of the Augusta championships.
