Cleveland State assistant suspended over tweets

Cleveland State assistant basketball coach Jermaine Kimbrough learned Wednesday that free speech has its limits.

The school suspended Kimbrough for one game for tweeting that the referees cheated the Vikings during a Monday loss to Kentucky.

Kimbrough will sit out the Vikings' Saturday home game against Ball State.

Cleveland State led Kentucky for much of Monday's game, but a 24-7 surge by the Wildcats allowed the nation's third-ranked team to avoid an upset.

After the Vikings' 68-61 loss, Kimbrough wrote on Twitter, "Don't take hard work away kids who deserved it and give it to kids who did not want it. Refs gave away what college basketball all about. ... College basketball is at all time low. I have never been cheated the way we got cheated in Rupp Arena tonight. Let the kids play."

Cleveland State athletic director John Parry issued the suspension, calling Kimbrough's comments "unacceptable."

The Vikings are off to a 3-3 start.
