Illinois-Chicago struggled through a nearly 14-minute scoring slump Monday as host Cleveland State claimed a 60-50 Horizon League victory at Wolstein Center. The Flames (10-5, 1-1) scored just seven points from late in the opening half to nearly the mid-point of the second half, while the Vikings (9-7, 1-1) went from a 21-21 tie to a a 44-28 lead with 10:25 left to play. Illinois-Chicago tried to close the gap but got no closer than eight points in the final 24 seconds. The Flames shot just 14 of 42 (33.3 percent) from the field as Gary Talton and Josh Crittle each had 10 points. Bryn Forbes topped Cleveland State with 14 points, Tim Kamczyc had 13 and Sebastian Douglas added 10. The Vikings ran their series winning streak to 11 over the Flames dating back to 2008-09, and now lead the series 40-32. UIC has now lost four of its last five games.
