The Cleveland Indians are on the verge of getting swept by the worst team in the American League. Sadly they were just swept by the second worst team in the American League the series prior. It appears the yearly meltdown has happened early this year.
With no major moves at the trade deadline in an effort to improve the team, fans are left watching matchups with very little value as the season winds down. Derek Lowe was already the first casualty as he was designated for assignment on August 2 to make room on the roster for Corey Kluber.
Kluber will get the nod on Thursday making his season debut with the Tribe. In Triple-A Columbus he went 11-7 with a 3.59 ERA. He also recorded 128 strikeouts in 21 starts. Fans can only hope Kluber will be able to accomplish what the former starters could not.
The Cleveland Indians will take on the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium located in Kansas City, Missouri on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at 8:10 p.m. EDT.
Corey Kluber (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will take the mound for the Indians facing off against the Royals' Bruce Chen (7-9, 5.49 ERA).
Cleveland enters the game with a 50-54 record and in third place in the American League Central. They are 23-29 when playing on the road and have won three of their last 10 games.
Kansas City comes into the matchup with a 43-60 record and in fifth place in the American League Central. They are 19-30 when playing at home and have won three of their last 10 games.
The season series is currently stands at 6-5 in favor of the Royals.
