The Cleveland Indians enter their matchup against the Detroit Tigers looking to avoid their third straight sweep. There have certainly been some embarrassing moments in the season but the current eight-game losing streak has to be the worst we have witnessed.
It is frightening to realize the hopes of the team will be placed on Chris Seddon, a 28-year-old minor league pitcher who is making his first major-league appearance in two years, and has not started a major league game since 2007. Seddon has gone 11-5 with a 3.44 ERA in 20 starts with Triple-A Columbus this season.
To make room for Seddon, reliever Jeremy Accardo has been designated for assignment. Accardo went 0-0 with a 4.58 ERA in 26 relief appearances with the Tribe this season. He struck out 28, walked 16, and gave up 38 hits in 35 1/3 innings.
The Cleveland Indians will take on the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park located in Detroit, Mich. on Sunday, August 5, 2012 at 1:05 p.m. EDT.
Chris Seddon (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will take the mound for the Indians facing off against the Tigers' Max Scherzer (10-6, 4.62 ERA).
Cleveland enters the game with a 50-57 record and in third place in the American League Central. They are 23-32 when playing on the road and have won one of their last 10 games.
