Cleveland Indians at Chicago White Sox, September 24, 2012: Fan Preview

Yahoo Contributor Network

One of the many things I love about baseball is it is always full of surprises, even if you cheer for a last place team with no hope of winning a World Series. Despite the second-half meltdown that caused me premature baldness due to stress, the Cleveland Indians have kept things interesting and look to continue to do so heading into this final handful of games.

On Sunday, September 23 the Indians managed to score 15 runs against the Kansas City Royals. Also playing on Sunday was the Cleveland Browns NFL team. They scored 14 points in a loss to the Buffalo Bills. Yes, the Cleveland Indians had a higher score than a football team that scored two touchdowns.

Even more interesting for Indians fans is the importance of the final three series to the AL Central. The Chicago White Sox hold a one game lead over the Detroit Tigers. The winner of the division goes on to the postseason, while the runner up is in no different position than our very own Indians--figuring out how to get to the playoffs next year.

Chicago plays six of their final 10 games against Cleveland with the final four against the Tampa Bay Rays. Detroit has 10 games remaining with seven against the Royals and three against the Minnesota Twins. While the Indians may not control their own destiny this season, they certainly have a say in who represents the division with their play the rest of the season.
