Cleveland Cavaliers Land Fourth Pick in 2012 NBA Draft: A Fan’s Reaction

Yahoo Contributor Network

Unfortunately 15-year-old Nick Gilbert could not work his NBA Draft Lottery magic for the Cleveland Cavaliers for the second straight year. In 2011, I still claim if it was not for young Gilbert the Cavaliers would never have had the opportunity to draft Kyrie Irving with the No. 1 pick. He is simply that good.

I suppose it was time for another team to land the top pick in the draft, along with the opportunity to choose forward Anthony Davis of Kentucky. That honor went to the New Orleans Hornets.

New Orleans' win sent every team back one spot from their natural position causing the league worst Charlotte Bobcats to slip to No. 2, the Washington Wizards to fall to No. 3, and the Cavaliers to claim the No. 4 position.

Obviously Davis will go No. 1 to the Hornets. I see forward Thomas Robinson landing with the Bobcats and the Wizards opting for forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist with the No. 3 pick.

At the No. 4 sport, the best pick options for the Cavaliers at this point would be guard Bradley Beal of Florida, center Andre Drummond of Connecticut, or forward Harrison Barnes of North Carolina.

Beal is arguably the top shooting guard in this year's draft and could contribute right from the start similar to Irving. Jeremy Lamb would be the next option at that position and while still a top 10 pick, he certainly is not the best option at No. 4.

Drummond is a big man that would certainly fill the need for a true center the Cavaliers so desperately need. Jared Sullinger is certainly a hometown favorite due to his run with the Ohio State Buckeyes, but again, not worth spending the teams top pick on.

Barnes would be a long shot with the No. 4 pick however he could be what the Cavaliers need on the wing. Their top choice at the position would certainly be Kidd-Gilchrist, however I see him landing with the Wizards.

Depending on any offseason moves as well as draft day deals, it is likely one of these three college stars will be a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers come June 28 with the NBA Draft takes place.
