The Cleveland Browns' matchup against the Green Bay Packers will be different compared to the typical Week 2 preseason game. Because the Browns will face off against the Philadelphia Eagles next week and again on Week 1 of the regular season, Cleveland's starters will likely see more action this week rather than next.
This additional playing time should give fans a better look at the capabilities of rookie starting quarterback Brandon Weeden. Weeden was three of nine for 62 yards with an interception and a lost fumble against the Detroit Lions last week. In his first start as an NFL quarterback, it may not have been the ideal performance but it is nothing to be overly concerned about at this point. How he performs against the Packers will give a clearer picture as to how much development he still needs to be ready for the regular season.
With rookie running back Trent Richardson expected to miss all of the preseason, fans will not likely see a true picture of how the offense will look once the regular season begins. In addition, with Richardson missing so much training time it is likely he will be rusty once he returns to the field. Again, this is not the ideal situation both for the Browns and the fans.
Cleveland enters the contest with a 1-0 preseason record after defeating the Detroit Lions by the score of 19-17 on Friday, August 10.
Green Bay enters the contest with a 0-1 preseason record after falling to the San Diego Chargers by the score of 13-21 on Thursday, August 9.
