Clark Haggans gets 3-game suspension for DUI conviction

National Football Post

Clark Haggans will have to wait to make his debut for the San Francisco 49ers.

The reserve linebacker, who dressed for the first two games but did not play, has been suspended for the next three games as the result of a DUI conviction from 2011 when he was a member of the Arizona Cardinals.

It was the second DUI for the 35-year-old Haggans, who also received one in 2004. Haggans pled guilty to “extreme DUI” because his blood-alcohol level was above 0.15. According to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee, Haggans was at a concert with his wife when they received a phone call from their babysitter, who said their 5-year-old daughter was having difficulty breathing. Haggans was cited for speeding and running a red light as well.

The 49ers will have a roster spot to fill with Haggans on the reserve/suspended list.

“We were certainly aware that this decision was a possibility as we evaluated Clark prior to adding him to our roster,” 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said in a statement. “Therefore, we are prepared to move forward accordingly.”

Hopefully, Haggans will arrange a ride next time he is out and drinking.
