Chone Figgins: Days As Mariner Are Over

Rotowire.com
Update: Figgins was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Tuesday, the Seattle Times reports.

Recommendation: Finally. Why the Mariners held onto Figgins through the entire 2012 season will remain a mystery. Figgins played in just 15 games and had 29 plate appearances in the second half (.143 AVG). The Mariners tried to trade him but, unsurprisingly, found no takers. Per DFA rules, his actual release will come in 10 days. Figgins has one more year left on his contract, forcing the Mariners to eat $8.5 million.
