Tom Marshall: “Used” Chelis looking to return to management on his own terms

José Luis Real will replace Jose Luis 'Chelis' Sanchez Sola as coach of Chivas USA, the club announced via a statement released 1 a.m. ET Thursday morning.

Chivas USA cited two reasons for dismissing head coach Chelis. One was the poor results. The Goats are last in the Western Conference with 11 points from 12 games (3-7-2). They haven't won in two months, losing six out of seven league games, including four in a row while being outscored 13-1 in that time.

The second reason given was Chelis' failure to follow "the patterns of respect and conduct implemented by Major League Soccer, as well as by Chivas USA."

Following a 4-1 loss to Real Salt Lake on May 19, Chelis said that the players given to him were not good enough to win in MLS. Earlier that week, the team had traded away top scorer Juan Agudelo without informing Sanchez Sola prior to the sale.

Guero Real, who is the sporting development director for Chivas Guadalajara, assumes coaching duties. Marco Fabián Vázquez, technical director of Chivas Guadalajara's U-20 team, will be his assistant coach.

Real has served as the coach of several Mexico youth national teams and previously led Chivas to the final of the Copa Libertadores in 2010.
