In the fourth minute, a scuffed Javier Morales shot rolled to Ned Grabavoy, who burst forward and curled the ball around Dan Kennedy. The goal was Grabavoy's first in the regular season since Oct. 16, 2010.
New Chivas USA recruit Gabriel Farfan made his debut with the team at half, replacing Joaquin Velazquez.
Three minutes into the second half, RSL scored again. The ball bounced off Kyle Beckerman's face, setting Joao Plata free. The joint-top assister in MLS finished for his first goal of the year.
The Goats pulled one back through Jorge Villafaña. Nick Rimando let Edgar Mejía's cross float over him in the penalty box, and El Sueño headed home at the far post.
Robbie Findley came on as a substitute and flubbed two breakaways. However, at the third time of asking, he put the game to bed. Yordany Alvarez mishit a shot wide and Walter Vilchez failed to deal with it at the back post. Findley managed to find the back of the net from half a yard out.
In stoppage time, substitute Khari Stephenson sprung the high Chivas USA back line, and Grabavoy nutmegged Kennedy for his second of the game.
Chivas USA has not won in MLS since March 24, a run of seven games.
