CARSON, Calif. -- For the first time in 15 league games, Chivas USA won, beating Toronto FC 1-0 on Wednesday. The match marked the debuts of new signings Carlos Bocanegra, the former U.S. national team captain, and Erick 'Cubo' Torres, who scored the game's only goal.
Bocanegra picked up his first booking 17 minutes into his debut. He went through Matias Laba a couple yards outside the box.
The card shade took a darker hue a few minutes later. Eric Avila slid late into Bobby Convey. Though Avila was pulling out, the referee ejected him softly for his high challenge.
Though a man up, Toronto struggled to take control, only putting one shot on target. The Goats kept creating chances on the break. Finally, one paid off nearly 10 minutes from time. Tristan Bowen found Torres, who skipped inside Gale Agbossoumonde. On his left foot, Torres shot, and the ball deflected heavily off Steven Caldwell past Joe Bendik.
Prior to Wednesday's win, Chivas USA last earned three points on March 30.
