Chivas owner Jorge Vergara fired manager Ricardo La Volpe on Wednesday, less than a month after he took over, following accusations he acted inappropriately toward a female staff member at the Liga MX club.
“This is the most shameful and sad press conference for me,” Vergara said in a Mexico City hotel. “Starting from today, Ricardo La Volpe has been separated from Chivas for inappropriate conduct toward a female member of staff.”
Vergara added that the club would be making a complaint to the relevant Mexico authorities.
“For the club it is very strong and disagreeable,” Vergara added. “I got the call yesterday, we did the investigation that we needed to do and unfortunately we had to arrive at this situation.”
No details were given about the exact nature of the allegations against La Volpe.
Chivas finished the season in 15th place in the Clausura 2014 regular season, missing out on the playoffs after the team lost 1-0 to Monterrey last Sunday in the Estadio Omnilife.
