After getting limited production out of their tight ends in 2011, the Chiefs have signed free agent Kevin Boss to bolster the position. It is a three-year deal for $9 million.
Boss played in 2011 with the Raiders but was released on Tuesday for salary-cap reasons. In his one season in Oakland, he caught 28 passes for 368 yards and three touchdowns. The five-year player's best season came in 2009 with the Giants, when he posted 42-567-5.
The Chiefs lost starting TE Tony Moeaki to a season-ending ACL injury during the preseason and could never find a suitable replacement. Leonard Pope had 24-247-1 as the first-string tight end for Kansas City in 2011, but he is better as a blocker.
