Chiefs put Commings on IR, promote Martin

The Kansas City Chiefs put rookie defensive back Sanders Commings on injured reserve Saturday and promoted rookie linebacker Josh Martin from the practice squad.

Commings, a fifth-round pick out of Georgia, missed the first nine games with a broken collarbone, and coach Andy Reid said Wednesday that Commings recently had developed inflammation in the shoulder.

Commings did not practice all week and had been ruled out of the Chiefs' game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

Martin, an undrafted rookie out of Columbia, was on the Chiefs' roster for the first three games of the season before being demoted to the practice squad.
