Chiefs-Panthers to play Sunday as scheduled

Players, coaches and the NFL agreed not to postpone Sunday's game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Carolina Panthers.

"After discussions between the league office, head coach Romeo Crennel and Chiefs team captains, the Chiefs advised the NFL that it will play tomorrow's game vs. the Carolina Panthers at its originally scheduled time," the Chiefs announced in a release Saturday.

The game will be played at Arrowhead Stadium, which became an investigation site around 8:10 a.m. Saturday. Starting inside linebacker Jovan Belcher, 25, fatally shot himself in front of team personnel less than an hour after he murdered his girlfriend at their home near the stadium, police said.

The Panthers chose not to delay their team charter to Kansas City on Saturday following prelimary discussions with the league office.

Belcher started 41 games over the past three seasons and was in his fourth NFL season, all with the Chiefs.
