Jamaal Charles had a big day on the ground, but it wasn't enough to avoid a tough loss for the Chiefs against the Chargers, 41-38, at home.
Alex Smith found pay dirt three times on 26 of 38 passing for 294 yards and one pick. Philip Rivers was just as hot for the Chargers, and finished 27 for 39 with 392 yards passing, three touchdowns and no interceptions.
Charles was a standout player for the Chiefs, rushing for 115 yards on 14 attempts while adding two touchdowns and had four receptions for 42 yards. Donnie Avery was a top performer, snagging four passes for 91 yards with a touchdown.
The Kansas City defense buckled, giving up 392 yards passing and 104 rushing. They brought down Rivers for one sack.
Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen was impressive, racking up 124 receiving yards. After Rivers, he was the top performer for San Diego. Tight end Ladarius Green also had a good game with 80 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Next week, the Chiefs host the Broncos (9-2) while the Chargers take on the Bengals (7-4), also at home.
