Chiefs celebrate health, even with Bowe out

WR Dwayne Bowe has chosen not to report to the start of training camp and, for the time being anyway, sign his franchise player tender offer the team has extended him. But the Chiefs are going forward without Bowe, happy that they have several key players back in the fold following injuries a year ago. S Eric Berry, QB Matt Cassel, RB Jamaal Charles, TE Tony Moeaki and FS Kendrick Lewis all began camp with a healthy stamp of approval from the trainers, medical staff and head coach Romeo Crennel. Our sources indicate that whatever kid gloves the team might use, perhaps holding them back slightly initially, is no worry whatsoever long term — these pivotal five starters are expected to play right away in the preseason. Although the passing game clearly benefits from the return of Cassel, Moeaki and Charles, a receiving weapon in 2009 and ’10, we hear that the coaches are tickled about the potential of the secondary, which ranked sixth in passing yards allowed and second in interception percentage despite missing Berry all season.
