Stephanie McMahon Q&A:

Chiefs announce release of Cassel

National Football Post

The Kansas City Chiefs have announced what basically had become inevitable - they have released quarterback Matt Cassel.

Cassel's tenure in Kansas City was an up-and-down ride with one playoff appearance and the team bottoming out last year with a 2-14 record. Injuries and inconsistency were major factors in Cassel's time running out in KC.

When new head coach Andy Reid arrived, and the Chiefs acquired Alex Smith from the San Francisco 49ers, it sent a strong message that Cassel's departure was just a formality.

Despite his problems with the Chiefs, many teams could do much worse than bringing in Cassel to be a No. 2 quarterback in a market that includes very little to offer either in the draft or free agency.
