Chicharito fighting for starting spot at Manchester United

With Wayne Rooney surprisingly left out altogether of Sir Alex Ferguson's final home match as Manchester United manager, Mexican forward Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez stepped up to deliver for the coach who brought him to England from Chivas de Guadalajara.

Making just his eighth league start of the season, Hernandez tallied a goal in the 39th-minute of the Red Devils' 2-1 victory over Swansea City Sunday, opening the scoring before Rio Ferdinand's late heroics ensured Ferguson left Old Trafford for the last time as a winner.

Hernandez pounced on Ashley Williams' failed clearance and whipped a finish past Gerhard Tremmel in the Swansea goal for his 17th tally in all competitions this season and his first for the club since March 10.

Hernandez nearly doubled his account in the 64th minute, when he just narrowly missed out on Danny Welbeck's cross with a sliding effort in the center of the box. He was taken off 12 minutes later, making way for Ryan Giggs.
