Fishing fans living in Alabama have much to look forward to this week. For starters, the FLW Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to the state. They are expected to kickoff their Chevy Trucks Wild Card tournament in Guntersville on Friday, October 26, 2012. Here are a few more specifics:
The FLW Walmart Bass Fishing League's Chevy Trucks Wild Card is slated to begin on Friday October 26, 2012 at Lake Guntersville State Park. It is expected to run through Saturday, October 27, 2012. The tournament is considered to be a crucial event because of what's at stake. The participating anglers will be battling it out for a berth at the Walmart BFL All-American.
Securing a spot, and a win, at the Walmart BFL All-American is important because the tournament is largely considered a stepping stone to participation in higher level events. The organization's higher level tournaments include the Walmart FLW Tour and the EverStart Series. Both tournaments sport high dollar prize purses that are known to quicken pulses and help launch pro fishing careers.
Anglers participating in the Chevy Trucks Wild Card tournament are expected to launch their boats daily, from the park, at 7 a.m. The tournament's 3 p.m., daily weigh-in sessions are anticipated to take place at the same location. Fishing fans are welcome to attend each event and cheer on their favorite, hopeful anglers. By the looks of things, the anglers will need all the fan support that they can get.
As of Thursday, October 25, 2012, the tailwater level at Lake Guntersville was said to be 556.39 feet MSL. The surface water temperature was reputedly 71 degrees Fahrenheit and the water clarity was said to be less than optimal in spots. The tournament day weather forecast is presently calling for partially cloudy skies, moderate UV rays, east northeast winds and daytime air temperatures in the high 70s (Fahrenheit). A waxing gibbous moon is also likely to occur.
Based on those conditions, I predict that the most productive fishing periods of the day will likely take place between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. Of course all that could change depending on Mother Nature's mood. Anglers may want to consider targeting the grassy coves and transition areas with topwater frogs, crankbaits and spinnerbaits at those times.
About the Venue
Fishing fans coming in from out of the area to watch the tournament will find lodging and dining opportunities located within the confines of Lake Guntersville State Park. Other amenities on offer at the park include an 18-hole golf course, more than 36 miles of hiking trails and picnic areas. Additional restaurants and lodging opportunities are also located nearby.
