Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic says his side must improve defensively if it is to have any chance of defending its Champions League title.
"If we're going to be successful, we have to be defensively strong as a team," he told reporters. "This is the part of the game we have to improve as a team. I'm sure we can create chances against any team, and can score the goals."
The Blues have not enjoyed a smooth start to their European campaign, dropping points at home to Juventus and losing against Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine.
The Serbian believes the answers to Chelsea’s dilemmas lie at the back and insists they must tighten up in the coming games.
“The question is about our defense and that's what we're going to work harder on. The importance is to be solid and compact, in the group stage especially," Ivanovic explained.
"If we do that, we'll be successful because, for sure, we'll still create the chances."
The west London side faces Shakhtar Donetsk at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening.
