Andre Schurrle scored in the 72nd minute and Fernando Torres netted the match-winner three minutes later as Chelsea rallied for a 2-1 victory at relegation-bound Cardiff City in the season finale for both teams.
Cardiff (7-9-22), which finished last in the table on 30 points, took a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute on a goal by Craig Bellamy that was deflected by Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta, but the Welsh side was unable to withstand the mounting pressure of Chelsea and it finally paid off as Schurrle tallied after Azpilicueta had a first effort stopped by goalkeeper David Marshall and a second hit the crossbar.
Torres then secured the three points for the Blues (25-7-6), chesting down Branislav Ivanovic's header before beating Marshall.
Chelsea finished third, four points behind champions Manchester City, claiming direct entry into Champions League group play after making a semifinal exit in this season's tournament following a two-legged loss to Atletico Madrid.
Cardiff City will return to the Championship after playing its first season in the Premier League in club history.
