There is an easy connection here as Carolina general manager Dave Gettelman came from the New York Giants, where Blackburn spent the entirety of his eight-year career. The Panthers are set at linebacker right now in the middle with Luke Kuechly, the defensive rookie of the year last season. But Thomas Davis and Jon Beason, starters on the outside, have both had durability issues.
Blackburn essentially replaces James Anderson, who was cut in a cap move and has since signed with the Chicago Bears.
