Given that their one-year experiment with Bob Sanders was unsuccessful, the Chargers are loading up at the SS position this offseason. Playing beside ballhawk FS Eric Weddle, the team signed SS Atari Bigby and also used a third-round pick on LSU’s Brandon Taylor, hoping that great depth will make up for the lack of a true starter at the spot. Bigby hasn’t been a full-time player since 2009 and has played in 10 or more games only three times in his seven-year career. He does have solid size and speed, however, and could be a good in-the-box playmaker, something the Chargers ask out of their strong safeties. Taylor, the leader of the vaunted Tigers defense a year ago, has great size and is an intense player, an attribute the team lacked a year ago. We hear the two players will mix-and-match early on unless a clear-cut starter emerges.
