Philip Rivers had a big day for the offense, leading the way to a close victory for the Chargers against the Chiefs, 41-38, at Arrowhead Stadium.
Rivers lit up the Chiefs for three scores on 27 of 39 passing for 392 yards and no interceptions. Alex Smith did his best to keep the Chiefs competitive, going 26 of 38 with 294 yards passing, three touchdowns and one pick.
Danny Woodhead was a key factor for the Chargers, running all over the Chiefs for 25 yards on six carries with a touchdown while adding four receptions for 45 yards and another score. Keenan Allen was a weapon for the offense, catching nine balls for 124 yards.
The San Diego defense allowed 114 yards rushing and 294 passing. They got to Smith for three sacks.
Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles had a big day with 115 yards rushing, 42 receiving and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Donnie Avery also had a good game with 91 receiving yards and one touchdown.
The Chargers will play host to the Bengals (7-4) next week while the Chiefs play against the Broncos (9-2), also at home.
