Chargers Defeat 49ers in Overtime, 38-35
Philip Rivers passed for multiple touchdowns, leading the way to a win at the end for the Chargers over the 49ers, 38-35, in Santa Clara.
A solid game for Rivers was tainted by turnovers, in contrast to 33 for 54 with 356 yards passing and three picks, he also put up four touchdowns. On the 49ers side, Colin Kaepernick went 15 for 24 with 114 yards passing, two touchdowns (1 pass, 1 rush) and one fumble.
Branden Oliver carried the ball 13 times for 53 yards while adding three receptions for 28 yards. Antonio Gates was a weapon for the offense, catching seven passes for 92 yards with two touchdowns.
The San Diego defense struggled against the run, but managed to slow down the passing game, giving up 355 yards rushing and 114 passing. They got to Kaepernick for two sacks.
49ers running back Frank Gore gave a standout effort with 158 yards rushing and one touchdown. Wide receiver Bruce Ellington also had a good game with 12 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
The Chargers head to Kansas City next week to face off with the Chiefs (8-6) while the 49ers will play host to the Cardinals (11-3).
