Chad Ochocinco: Restructures Deal With Patriots

Rotowire.com
Update: Ochocinco has restructured his contract with the Patriots for 2012, and he will now earn $1 million, Ian R. Rapoport of the Boston Herald reports.

Recommendation: The report adds that Ochocinco (who was slated to make $3 million) is actually taking a pay cut here, so he's truly putting his money where his mouth is. Wes Welker is slated to remain the Patriots' top wideout target, with Brandon Lloyd slated for a large role as well. Ochocinco will compete for a role in the team's offense along with Deion Branch, Anthony Gonzalez and Donte Stallworth in what figures to be a spirited training camp battle. Ochocinco is coming off a nondescript 2011 season in which he caught just 15 passes, but with further experience in the offense, there's a chance that he could click with QB Tom Brady this season. In any case, by restructuring his deal, he'll be given a chance to atone for last season's disappointing campaign.
