South Carolina defensive tackle Kelcy Quarles will be punished for punching LSU center P.J. Lonergan in the facemask during Saturday's loss, Gamecocks' coach Steve Spurrier said. After watching video of the first-quarter incident, Spurrier said during the weekly SEC conference call that discipline could involve a loss of playing time, though Quarles is questionable anyway due to a shoulder injury. "Yes, I saw it," Spurrier said. "We do have plans to discipline Kelcy for that. I guess you would call it a punch. I've seen a lot bigger punches. I don't even know if the LSU guy knew he threw a punch. It glanced off his shoulder pads or helmet or somewhere. We don't condone that." ---Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson has been cleared to practice following a concussion in the Stanford game, the school announced Wednesday. The sophomore passed concussion testing Tuesday, and is expected to start Saturday at home vs. BYU. Golson was knocked out of Saturday's 20-13 overtime victory against Stanford late in the fourth quarter. Backup Tommy Rees took over and helped the Fighting Irish stay undefeated.
