Celtics PG Rondo suspended one gameBy The Sports Xchange | The SportsXchange – Mon, Jan 7, 2013 5:55 PM EST
Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo was suspended one game by the NBA on Monday for making contact with a game official and failing to cooperate with a league investigation. The incident occurred with 3:19 left in the third quarter of Sunday's game against the Atlanta Hawks, which the Celtics won 89-81. Rondo, who is averaging 13.2 points and 11.3 assists per game, will miss Monday night's game at New York against the Knicks. Rondo did not talk before the game at Madison Square Garden. Celtics coach Doc Rivers said the suspension surprised him because there wasn't a technical called on the play, but he also said of Rondo, "You know the old saying, you're not given a reputation, you earn one." Asked about Rondo's reputation, Rivers said, "I'm not worried about it because it's already here. We just work on it every day." Rondo was suspended for two games after a November scuffle with Brooklyn Nets forward Kris Humphries. He also got a two-game suspension last season, plus a one-game suspension in the 2012 playoffs, both for incidents involving game officials.
