Cavs coach Brown: Bynum will start

The SportsXchange

Cleveland Cavaliers coach Mike Brown told the Akron Beacon-Journal that center Andrew Bynum will not be eased into the rotation, despite his knee problems.

Instead, he plans to start Bynum right away.

That is, if he can play.

"He's most likely going to start for us because he's obviously an All-Star caliber player," Brown said. "But we need to see where his health is as we progress toward training camp, into training camp, preseason and into the regular season. If everything fits right, if he's completely healthy, no doubt about it, he's our starter at center."

Bynum missed all of last season after having knee surgery. He spent just one season with the Philadelphia 76ers after getting traded from the Los Angeles Lakers in the four-team Dwight Howard deal last year.

Bynum signed a two-year, $24 million contract with the Cavaliers on Friday.

His best season was in 2011-12 with the Lakers, when he averaged 18.7 points and 11.8 rebounds per game.
