Guard Vince Carter said he has been told by that he will not be traded by the Dallas Mavericks.
Carter said Wednesday that after a recent game Maverick coach Rick Carlisle said he would not be dealt at the Feb. 21 trading deadline.
"...he pulled me aside and said all the trade rumors, because I didn't know much about it, he said it's not going to happen," Carter said to NBA.com. "I'm happy where I am. I feel like my role here is needed.
"It's a perfect position as a mentor, as a player, as a spark. I'm OK with that. I feel like for me, if they need me to start I'll do it. If they need me to come off the bench, I'll do it. I'm still going to play my same game and be effective. I'm a team guy and I want to see our team have success."
The 14-year veteran is averaging 12.8 points and 3.9 rebounds a game. His career average is 21.0 points a game.
He is signed through 2013-14 at $3 million this season and $3.1 next season.
