Carroll complains about condition of FedEx Field

The Seahawks lodged a complaint to the NFL about the conditions of FedEx Field, according to Ian Rapoport of

The field appeared to be in poor condition for Sunday’s wild-card game between the Redskins and Seahawks. Seahawks DE Chris Clemons may have torn his ACL and Redskins QB Robert Griffin III reinjured his knee.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll told radio station KIRO in Seattle on Monday, “It was horrible. It’s a horrible field. It was as bad as a field could get for being dry. And it’s too bad. It’s really too bad, and we deserve better. … And it was relative. It didn’t change the game at all, in my opinion, because it was relative, both sides, but we should expect to see a better field at that time of year.”

That radio appearance served as a complaint to the league, per Rapoport.

"It is the responsibility of the home team to maintain the field," league spokesman Greg Aiello told "It's a grass field. It's winter. There were no complaints about it by either team. … Injuries occur, unfortunately, on every field."

Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan was asked about the conditions during his Monday press conference.

“You’d like a perfect field. It wasn’t a perfect field,” he said. “I thought the field was OK because you didn’t see people slipping.”

Shanahan said he would be “open to the discussion” of having synthetic turf at FedEx Field.
