The Panthers outscored the Dolphins, 20-16, in Miami Gardens.
Cam Newton accounted for two scores against the Dolphins (1 pass, 1 rush) on 19 of 38 passing for 174 yards and one pick. On the Dolphins side, Ryan Tannehill went 28 for 42 with 310 yards passing, one touchdown and one pick.
Mike Tolbert rushed for 23 yards on four attempts. Greg Olsen was a highlight, pulling in five balls for 34 yards with a touchdown.
The Carolina defense was the difference in the victory, giving up 52 yards rushing and 310 passing. They brought down Tannehill for three sacks.
Dolphins wide receiver Mike Wallace had a productive game with 127 receiving yards and one touchdown. Wide receiver Brian Hartline had a good game as well with 78 receiving yards.
The Panthers are at home to take on the Buccaneers (3-8) next week while the Dolphins travel to East Rutherford to meet the Jets (5-6).
