Carmelo Anthony scores 29, Knicks cruise past Jazz

Tyson Chandler posted his 13th double-double this season, scoring 16 points and registering 11 rebounds, to help the New York Knicks dominate the Utah Jazz, 108-81. The Knicks shot 42-85 (49.4%) from the field and turned it over on only seven possessions. New York (23-40) has won just three of their last 10 games.

Chandler shot 8-10, in an efficient offensive performance. Carmelo Anthony chipped in 29 points and 8 assists for New York as well. On 6-8 shooting (2-3 on 3-point attempts), in addition to going 4-5 from the free throw line, Gordon Hayward scored 18 points for Utah in the loss. He also registered 7 rebounds and 5 assists.

As expected, New York, ranked third in the NBA at avoiding errors (TO% of 13.3%) protected the ball well in this contest. Meanwhile, the defense of Utah continues to struggle forcing turnovers, with their opponents surrendering the fewest turnovers in the league (12.7%). The Knicks paired an eFG% of 56.5% with a TO% of just 7.7%. On the year, when exceeding 55% in eFG% and losing the ball on fewer than 10% of their possessions, they are undefeated (2-0). The Jazz, conversely, are winless (0-4) when their opponents hit those numbers.

Utah (21-41) has now lost five straight.

Coming up next, the Knicks play the Cleveland Cavaliers, who are 24-39 on the year. The Jazz match up with the Philadelphia 76ers, currently 15-46 this season. The Knicks are 1-1 versus Cleveland this season. The Jazz have a 1-0 record against Philadelphia this season.
