Mexican Carlos Vela was chosen as La Liga’s best player in December, defeating the likes of Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa to the award.
Vela was inspirational in Real Sociedad’s 5-1 win against Real Betis and the 3-1 victory over Granada in La Liga, in which the former Chivas player scored two goals.
The 24-year-old also netted in Real’s 4-0 win over Algeciras in the Copa del Rey, notching up a total of three assists in December over both the league and cup.
Vela currently has eight goals in 19 appearances in La Liga this season, playing mainly on the right wing, and is on course to break his record of 14 goals in a season.
But while Vela’s career in Europe soars, there has been no indication that he is ready to rejoin the Mexico national team after an absence of almost three years.
El Tri coach Miguel Herrera will be traveling to Europe in February to meet up with Vela and discuss his national team situation, but he stated the former Arsenal player must be 100 percent committed to El Tri if he is to be considered.
Real Sociedad currently lies in sixth place in La Liga, four points behind Giovani Dos Santos’ Villarreal in the final Champions League spot.
