Recommendation: Gomez's deal will kick in next season and run through 2016. Gomez has had an erratic major league career, but he is coming off his best season, and his strong spring performance convinced the Brewers to lock him up for a few more years. Gomez still has his flaws offensively, but he has good power and is exceptional on the base paths and in center field thanks to his tremendous speed. While Gomez buys himself some security with this deal, he probably could have made quite a bit more had he put up another quality season and entered next offseason as a free agent. The contract should end up as a good one for the Brewers if Gomez can be even passable offensively.
