Atletico will knock out Milan, says Ancelotti

Carlo Ancelotti says it was crucial that Real Madrid qualified for the Copa del Rey final at Atletico Madrid's expense despite insisting it is the least important trophy his side is chasing this season.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice — though he was also hit on the head by a lighter — in the 2-0 win at the Vicente Calderon on Tuesday to give the Blancos a 5-0 aggregate victory in the semifinal and avenge last season's defeat at the last hurdle.

Ancelotti, whose side will face Barcelona or Real Sociedad in the final later this season, accepted that he might have bigger fish to fry in 2013-14 and confirmed Ronaldo did not suffer an injury in Atletico's defeat.

"I think the cup is important here because the teams give importance to this competition," the Italian told reporters after the match. "In England it may be more important, though. We want to win all competitions. It is true that this is the least important competition for us — we have the Champions League and La Liga — but a final is always a great thing for the team."

When asked how Ronaldo is coping after his blow to the head, the coach said: "Ronaldo is fine. He scored two goals and was important early in the game. He's fine, there's no injury problem."

Diego Simeone's men went out with a whimper, making it three defeats in a row for Atletico after the high of topping La Liga at the start of February. He was disappointed with the cup elimination but heartened somewhat by their performance.

"After losing, one is never happy," the coach said. "This group of players are that way, it's normal. We wanted to get to win the cup again, but it's just the semifinals this year. We can always can do better but I think today was not bad. We played and competed how we wanted to, which was to compete with Real Madrid well."
