Update: Crawford is reportedly planning to ask the Red Sox to allow him to undergo Tommy John surgery next week, according to Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe.
Recommendation: If Crawford has the procedure, it would end his 2012 campaign and effectively put the entire 2013 season in jeopardy for the Red Sox's left fielder. Boston has received very little bang for its buck from its headlining free-agent pickup following the 2010 season. His contract now appears as if it will become a true anchor to the franchise's future bottom line.
