Cardinals go with Wainwright as opening-day starter
The St. Louis Cardinals confirmed Friday that right-hander Adam Wainwright will be their starting pitcher on Opening Day.
Coming off Tommy John elbow surgery in 2012, Wainwright posted a 14-13 record with a 3.94 ERA in 32 starts last season.
Kyle Lohse started the Cardinals' opener last season. Wainwright, 31, received the opening-day nod in 2009.
St. Louis' opener is April 1 against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
