The St. Louis Cardinals put left-hander John Gast on the 15-day disabled list after he left Saturday's game with shoulder tightness and called up right-hander Michael Blazek from the minor leagues to take his place, according to MLB.com. The 24-year-old Gast had replaced injured Jake Westbrook in the Cardinals' rotation and went 2-0 with a 5.11 ERA in three starts. Westbrook went on the DL with elbow inflammation in early May. Blazek, 24, had pitched in seven games this year for double-A Springfield and had a 0.92 ERA. It's expected that the Cardinals will call up right-hander Michael Wacha from triple-A Memphis before Gast's next turn in the rotation comes up. Wacha was taken down as the starter for Memphis' game on Sunday night, leading to speculation that he would be promoted to St. Louis. The 21-year-old Wacha, the 19th overall pick in the 2012 draft, is 4-0 with a 2.05 ERA in nine starts for Memphis this year.
